New digital reporting platform launched to track issues affecting public schools
(Kaieteur News) – The Ministry of Education on Thursday launched a digital reporting platform which will allow headteachers and other school officials to report issues affecting their schools.
Launched under the instructions of Minister of Education, Sonia Parag, the reports, once submitted, will be automatically dispatched to the regional authorities as well as the education ministry, which has designated officers to follow up on each issue, the ministry reported.
“Our children deserve the best, and for that to happen, every player has to play their part,” Minister Parag said.

In a video demonstrating how the platform works, Chief Education Officer (CEO), Saddam Hussain said “An app has been developed by the Ministry of Education under the instructions by the Honourable Minister of Education, Sonia Parag which will attempt to collect all the issues around schools and resolve them very, very quickly.”
He said the reporting platform will be available to every school in the country. Headteachers and school officials will be able to access the system using their respective school’s email after which they will receive a verification code.
It was explained that once in the app, users will be directed to select their region and name of school. From there, the next step will be to select the issue, provide a description of the issue and its urgency. Also, photos could be uploaded to show evidence of the complaint. After reviewing and verifying the information about their complaint then they submit.
Hussain stated that “Once this issue has been submitted, it goes first, to all of your respective district education officer, concurrently it goes to your Regional Education Officer, it goes to the Regional Executive Officer, (and) it goes to the Ministry of Education, so everybody is notified of this complaint.”
The ministry he said has four officers who will be looking at these complaints and on a daily basis will check in with the regions to understand whether this issue has been resolved or not.
The chief education officer added that the education ministry will shortly issue a circular that will make the digital reporting system a legal requirement in the education system.
“Headteachers, teachers in charge, principals, you must use this system to report a complaint, to report an issue at your school. We cannot fix issues which we do not know about; we have to be told, so we should be able to fix those issues once we are told. This is the only channel which must be used,” the CEO said.
