(Kaieteur News) – Five persons have been arrested in connection with a violent armed robbery that terrorized a family at Good Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD), early Monday morning.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) confirmed the arrests in a statement on Thursday, noting that investigations are actively ongoing.
According to the police, the victim – a 49-year-old self-employed man- was at home with his wife and two daughters when approximately seven masked men entered their property.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was at home with his wife and two daughters when about seven masked males, armed with firearms, cutlasses, and knives, arrived at the premises. The suspects allegedly struck the front door. Shortly after, loud explosions, suspected to be gunshots, were heard and the suspects forcibly gained entry into the house,” police said.
One of the victim’s daughters was struck during the attack, while the man and his jewellery, two cell phones, cash and personal documents- the value of which is yet to be determined.
The 49-year-old man managed to escape and reported the incident to the police. Ranks responded and visited the scene, and the victims were taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital for examination.
“Further investigations led ranks to a location at Phase Two, Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, where a search was conducted on Tuesday June 9, 2026. During the search, two .32 pistols were recovered in a blue cookie tin,” police further stated.
The weapons were examined and lodged as evidence, pending further investigations. Two men were initially arrested – a 21-year-old labourer and a 33-year-old taxi driver, both of Good Hope Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara. Three additional suspects were subsequently taken into custody, bringing the total in custody to five.
