(Kaieteur News) – Two persons have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of an engineer Tuesday night at Parika. The 21-year-old engineer from Wakenaam was relieved of $200,000 and a Samsung S22 mobile phone.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Thursday said that the incident occurred at around 23:30h in the vicinity of Big Kiss Parking Lot at Parika.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was walking south when an identifiable male approached him, pointed what appeared to be a firearm at him and began searching his pockets,” police said.
The man was then approached and choked from behind by an identifiable male and it was during this time that the first suspect relieved him of $200,000 cash and one Samsung S22 cellular phone.
The two attackers then entered a black Toyota Fielder Wagon and made their good escape in an eastern direction. The victim visited the Parika Police Station where he made a report. The police acting on the information received, intercepted a car matching the description. During a search of the 30-year-old driver, the police found $59,060 was recovered.
“Acting on further information received, a 17-year-old labourer of Stewartville, West Coast Demerara, was later arrested and escorted to the Leonora Police Station. He was searched and $65,000 was found on his person,” police revealed.
Both the cash and the motor vehicle were lodged.
