COVID-19 outbreak at GuySuCo Training College sparks contact-tracing effort
(Kaieteur News) – Authorities in Region Six are continuing to monitor an outbreak of coronavirus at the GuySuCo Training College in Port Mourant, Corentyne.
This is according to a health official, who also confirmed to this publication on Monday that there have been no detected cases outside of the institution.
Last Thursday, over 20 cases of COVID-19 were detected among students who stayed in the dorms of the school. Reports are that none of the cases was critical, but rather asymptomatic.
Following the outbreak, the entire school was vacated, and those students who were confirmed as infected were placed in quarantine.
The official stated that the situation is being carefully assessed, and contact-tracing is being undertaken to identify and manage persons who might have come into close contact with the affected individuals.
It was also highlighted that contingency measures exist in the eventuality of further spreading of the virus.
Up to press time the institution remained closed. One source confirmed that students were informed that they will be returning to the training school on Sunday.
Health officials in the region have not responded to queries from this newspaper.
