Take a stand and do something

Dear Editor,

The elected Dictator is at it again. It seems to me that the dictatorship is systematically believing that the Guyanese people are fools. Not surprising that the Vice President in one of his former weekly tirades says that some Guyanese are stupid – there are some real stupid people in Guyana. The Vice President knows what he is talking about. Almost daily, we see the dictatorship at work.

We now read that the dictators have taken a bill to parliament that will reinstate the “Former President Unlimited spending”. My question to the people of Guyana, but more specifically, those of you who voted for the PPP – “Did you vote for this?” If you did not, and I am convinced that most of the people who voted for the PPP will never approve such an extravagant spending spree for all former Presidents – you MUST take a stand and do something.

Let’s set the record straight. Under President Bharrat Jagdeo, we saw the beginning of the doctrine of business opportunities for family, friends and cronies (favourites). Under his watch we had the dolphin scandal, the deterioration of GuySuCo to the point where the production of sugar went on the wrong direction on the slope. We can go on and on, but the most bizarre was the construction of the Skeldon Sugar factory (which he promised the people of Guyana to fix – never did. This “goadie” cost the Guyanese taxpayers more than US$200M. We don’t know when we will finish paying.

Then we were handed President Donald Ramotar. Under his short stint, he was denied the freedom to carry on the charade of the PPP because he led a minority government. However, he signed the Kaieteur and Canje Blocks in the sunset days of his Presidency. There are allegations of giving away those blocks to friends. No one knows who prepared the contract. How interesting.

Then come President Granger to the stage. History will reveal that under his stewardship the people of Guyana was taxed on almost everything. The country suffered. All our gold reserve was decimated (as per the Bank of Guyana report). What is more bizarre, was that under his watch, he signed the worst oil contract in the history of the world. No other country signed such a lopsided contract, and I am convinced that no such contract will be signed in the future.

Then rode President Irfaan Ali into State house. He and the former President Jagdeo promised the people that the worst oil contract ever signed WILL BE RENEGOTIATED. It was a BIG lie. Under President Ali’s stewardship, the revenue to the State skyrocketed (even under the worst oil contract). What did he do – he accelerated the giveaways of government contract to family, friends and cronies. However, the worst of all is bigger than the atrocities of President Jagdeo and Granger. The Gas-to-Energy project at Wales has been the most shameful in our history. A project that was initially billed at under US$1B is now approaching US$3B – with no transparency.

Imagine, someone who raped and battered your family is being rewarded with a lifetime guarantee of unlimited spending – and guess what? You are paying for it.

It is really approaching crunch time for all Guyanese (whether you voted for the PPP or not) to be prepared to take to the streets to stop this nonsense. If we allow these people to pass that unholy bill for unlimited spending for former Presidents, then “GOAT REALLY BITE WE”.

Wake up Guyana.
