(Kaieteur News) – Canadian gold exploration company Lighthouse Gold Corp. which is focused on advancing high-potential assets in Guyana, has moved from acquisition to active exploration at its Aurora NW gold project located in Region Seven.
The company confirmed that it has launched its phase one exploration programme at the Aurora project, which consists of four prospecting permits totalling 4,799 acres in the Cuyuni–Mazaruni district.
The Aurora NW property is located within the Cuyuni greenstone belt of the Guiana Shield, an area considered prospective for gold mineralisation. It lies approximately three kilometres from the Aurora Gold Mine concessions and about seven kilometres from the Aurora mine itself, the largest active gold mine in Guyana, which is owned and operated by Chinese state-company Zijin Mining Group Corporation.
Lighthouse cautioned that mineralisation on adjacent properties is not necessarily indicative of mineralisation on Aurora NW property.
In February this year, Lighthouse entered into a definitive option agreement to acquire 100% interest in the Aurora project, comprising of associated mineral rights, permits and claims. The deal includes US$100,000 in cash payments and the issuance of two million common shares, alongside a Net Smelter Royalty (NSR) tied to annual production levels, as defined under the Guyanese Mining Act and its applicable regulations. The company also retains the option to repurchase that royalty for US$500,000.
Since finalising the agreement, the company has been preparing the ground for exploration, including assembling a local operational team and logistical support to execute field activities.
Lighthouse is now executing Phase I of the exploration programme designed to rapidly generate drill targets. The drill programme is aimed at identifying mineralised corridors and generating drill-ready targets. Work includes the compilation and reinterpretation of historical data, geological mapping, structural analysis, and geochemical sampling through rock, stream, and soil surveys.
Initial trenching and drilling are expected later in the exploration season, depending on results. The company said the approach is designed to be cost-efficient while allowing it to make technically informed decisions during the option period.
The company is also evaluating potential additional acquisitions in the surrounding area to consolidate prospective ground within the fertile Guyanese greenstone belt.
Lighthouse interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Will Rascan noted, “Our priority is simple: determine whether structural controls and key lithologies from Aurora extend onto our ground and define targets we can drill this season.”
Further, the company recently announced the appointment of Guyanese geologist Reshud McLennan as Exploration Manager. McLennan was part of the discovery team at Reunion Gold’s Oko West Project, one of the more significant recent gold finds in the region, and has previously led exploration programmes for other operators in Guyana.
The company said his experience in drill programme execution, structural interpretation, and advancing projects from early exploration to resource definition would be key as Aurora NW moves toward potential drilling.
Lighthouse Gold was formerly named Alerio Gold Corp. as of December 2025. Upon its arrival in June 2021, Alerio Gold entered into a deal with Goldeneye, to purchase two of the three gold fields first; the Tassawinni and the Harpy gold projects, located in Cuyuni Mazaruni.
