(Kaieteur News) – The suspect behind the shooting of Berbice hairdresser, Vasanti Gordon, is now in police custody after being on the run for nearly two weeks.
According to police reports, Damion Morgan, 28, of Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme, East Canje Berbice, surrendered to the Central Police Station in New Amsterdam at 09:40 hrs on Monday morning.
Morgan was wanted for discharging several gunshots at Gordon, a 27-year-old hairdresser of Lot 60 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam Berbice on April 11, 2026. The incident occurred at the said location, which is both her home and place of business.
The mother of two confirmed to investigators that she and Morgan once shared a relationship. Gordon detailed that the relationship ended because of Morgan’s constant infidelity and physical abuse towards her.
At about 17:00 hours on the day of the incident, Gordon said Morgan walked up to her while she was seated in her car in front of her home. He reportedly brandished a black handgun, with which he struck her in her head while threatening to kill her. He then fired several shots at both her feet.
The injured woman was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where she underwent surgery. The medical report showed four wounds to her right leg and thigh.
Investigations are continuing.
