(Kaieteur News) – A 23-year-old man identified as Bernard North, lost his life in an accident on the Harlem Public Road, West Coast Demerara, after he lost control of the motorcar he was driving. Two persons in the other vehicle were injured.
Police said that, “Initial enquiries revealed that motorcar PAJ 6755 (North’s car) was proceeding east along the northern side of the road at an alleged fast rate when the driver reportedly lost control, ended up on the southern side of the road and collided with the right-side front portion of motor pickup GAJ 761, which was proceeding west along the southern side of the road.”
The impact from the collision caused both drivers to receive injuries. They were transported to the West Demerara Regional Hospital and were attended to by a doctor on duty.
North was pronounced dead on arrival, and the driver and occupant of the pickup were treated for their injuries sustained.
“The body of the deceased is at Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination. A breathalyzer test conducted on the driver of motor pickup GAJ 761 revealed no trace of alcohol on his breath,” police added.
Investigations are ongoing and footage from CCTV cameras have been reviewed.
