(Kaieteur News) – The Ministry of Education announced Wednesday that Parakeese Village in Region One will soon get its first primary school.
The new state-of-the-art facility will be designed for 200 children from the mainland and surrounding islands.
According to the ministry, plans for the new school follows a recent site visit by officers from the Ministry of Education and its private sector partner, Environmental Management Consultancy Inc. (EMC).
Deputy Chief Education Officer with responsibility for Amerindian and Hinterland Education Development (AHED), Marti De Souza was joined by Project Coordinator Patrick John and the EMC team to discuss the plans with residents.
“The project, one of six funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), aims to eliminate the daily hardships faced by local pupils who must currently endure arduous commutes by road or boat to reach Kamwatta Primary School. By bringing high-quality facilities directly to the community, the ministry is decentralising educational resources to ensure that geography never dictates a child’s potential,” the ministry reported.
Further, the ministry said that this move underscores the government’s commitment to equitable education, proving that access to a modern learning environment is a right for every student, regardless of their location.
