“He wanted to shoot her in the mouth” – Brother demands justice after hairdresser survives ex-boyfriend’s brutal attack
(Kaieteur News) – The brother of a Berbice hairdresser who narrowly survived a gun attack by her ex-boyfriend has revealed chilling details of what he believes was a clear attempt to execute her, noting that the suspect demanded she open her mouth so he could shoot her.
Shot and injured: Vasanti Gordon, 27
Vasanti Gordon, 27, is currently recovering after being shot multiple times on Saturday afternoon outside her Lot 60, Stanleytown, Berbice home and business place. The suspected gunman, identified as 28-year-old Damion Morgan, remains on the run.
In an interview on Tuesday, the woman’s brother, Vyn Gordon, an overseas-based Guyanese, said the suspect’s actions point unmistakably to an intent to kill.
“I’m very thankful that she survived. I think the intent was to do permanent harm to my sister, because Damion asked her specifically to open her mouth. He wanted to shoot her in the mouth. The chances of her surviving that would have been very slim or next to none. The intent was murder, and I think he should be held accountable for that, “he told Kaieteur News”.
According to police reports, the attack occurred around 16:50hrs. Vasanti Gordon told investigators that Morgan approached her vehicle armed with a handgun, struck her to the head with the weapon, and then discharged several rounds in her direction before fleeing the scene.

She was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery. Medical officials have since indicated that she is in stable condition and recovering.
Her brother said he received the devastating news from another sibling shortly after the incident and has since been grappling with both anger and disbelief.
“That’s my sister…. of course, I’m pissed off. I don’t care what it is my sister said or what she did, none if this justifies what happened to her. I don’t care who thinks that she deserves it, it doesn’t deserve this type of reaction. You have somebody who have no self-control, and who honestly should be held responsible…”
The situation, he added, is made even more troubling by the presence of a young child during the attack. A four-year-old relative was reportedly inside the vehicle at the time and witnessed the shooting.
Gordon also expressed deep frustration with what he described as a lack of urgency by law enforcement in apprehending the suspect, who remains at large days after the incident.
“To this point, they still haven’t caught him. From what I understand, his mom has some type of association with the police department in New Amsterdam, and because of this, this guy has been given a lot of liberty and a lot of slack, where he’s been allowed to get away with a lot of things. He’s well-known to the police department, he’s been in trouble many times before, yet he’s not facing serious criminal charges of things he’s done in the past.”
Morgan, of Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme, East Canje Berbice, has previously faced criminal charges. In 2023, he was arrested and charged in connection with a $50 million robbery at the Region Six Regional Democratic Council office in New Amsterdam. He and two others were released on $500,000 bail.
That same year, he was also implicated in another firearm-related incident in which he allegedly shot and injured a man during a confrontation.
