(Kaieteur News) – The race for the coveted Courts Pee Wee Under-11 Boys’ Football Tournament title intensifies tomorrow at the Ministry of Education ground, eight schools will battle for semifinal places in what promises to be a defining day in the 13th annual competition.
Reduced from an initial field of 32 teams, the remaining contenders have navigated the preliminary rounds to earn their places in the quarterfinals, with the stakes now significantly higher as the tournament moves closer to crowning its 2026 champion.
Potaro Primary, Georgetown International Academy (GIA), Santa Rosa Primary, Leonora Primary, West Ruimveldt Primary, Marian Academy, Waramuri Primary and Tucville Primary are the eight schools still in contention, each harbouring ambitions of progressing to the final stages.

The final two spots will be decided tomorrow as Courts Pee Wee U11 Football tournament contest its quarterfinals and semifinals action.
With the quarterfinals and semifinals scheduled for the same day, there will be little room for error, as the winners must quickly regroup and prepare for another demanding encounter in pursuit of the championship.
The opening quarterfinal on Saturday, will see Potaro Primary take on GIA ‘1’ in a clash between two sides eager to extend their impressive campaigns. GIA enter the contest with a psychological advantage, having won all four of their matches leading into this stage, while Potaro have demonstrated resilience in recovering from their second-round defeat to Tucville Primary.
GIA’s consistency makes them a formidable opponent, but Potaro will be determined to upset the odds and secure a place in the final four. The winner will advance to face either Marian Academy or Santa Rosa Primary.
That second quarterfinal promises an intriguing battle, with Santa Rosa’s attacking firepower set to test Marian Academy’s defensive resolve.
Ethan Richards and Kenyano Austin will be central to Santa Rosa’s hopes of breaking through, while Marian will look to Juan Diego to spearhead their offensive efforts.
Both schools have demonstrated the quality needed to reach this stage, but the quarterfinal presents a different challenge, where execution under pressure could prove decisive. Victory would not only secure a semifinal berth but also bring either Potaro or GIA into their path.
Defending champions Leonora Primary face a stern test against Waramuri Primary in the third quarterfinal, with both teams boasting perfect records heading into the business end.
Waramuri have impressed with their explosive performances and will be eager to carry that momentum into a contest against the reigning champions. However, Leonora Primary have championship pedigree on their side, with captain Johnathan Melvin expected to lead the charge as they seek to keep their title defence on course.
The encounter could prove pivotal in determining the tournament’s direction, as Waramuri aim to establish themselves as genuine title contenders while Leonora looks to reaffirm their credentials. The winner will meet either West Ruimveldt Primary or Tucville Primary in the semifinals.
The final quarterfinal brings together West Ruimveldt Primary and Tucville Primary in what is expected to be a closely contested affair. Both schools have enjoyed encouraging campaigns, and their similar approaches and competitive records suggest that neither will find it easy to gain the upper hand.
With the final two spots at stake, these encounters are likely to hinge on discipline, teamwork and the ability to capitalise on scoring opportunities.
By the end of the day, only two schools will remain in contention for the title, while the others will play for positions fourth to sixteenth.
Courts Optical continues its partnership with the Petra Organisation to showcase the country’s emerging football talent through the 13th annual Courts Pee Wee Under-11 Boys’ Football Tournament.
The competition is also supported by MVP Sports, Demerara Mutual Life, Sterling Products Limited, SkyTec Enterprise and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
