Chinese consortium to build new Bartica Regional Hospital
(Kaieteur News) – The Chinese consortium, China Sinopharm International Corporation and China CAMC Engineering Co Ltd (CAMCE – Sinopharmintl) has been contracted by the government to build the new state-of-the-art Regional Hospital in Bartica, Region Seven.
The new regional hospital is expected to be located at Five Miles Potaro Road, Bartica, and a sod turning ceremony to mark the commencement of the construction phase is expected to be done shortly.
CAMCE – Sinopharmintl consortium is no stranger to Guyana’s construction industry. This consortium has recently completed the construction of six regional hospitals in the country at Lima in Region Two, De Kinderen in Region Three, Diamond and Enmore in Region Four, Bath in Region Five and at No. 75 Village in Region Six.

Additionally, the Chinese consortium was in 2025 contracted by the Guyana Government to build the new $11.4 billion West Demerara Regional Hospital in Region Three.
Regarding the contract awarded to the contractors, China CAMC Engineering on its website stated that on December 29, 2025 the company officially signed a commercial contract to build the hospital.
CAMCE in its press release stated that its main scope involves the construction of a new modern general hospital, including the design and construction of the main medical building and ancillary facilities, as well as the supply, installation, and commissioning training of medical equipment.
“During the signing ceremony, Malcolm Watkins stated that since July 2022, CAMCE has completed the construction of six regional hospitals in Guyana with high standards and quality, delivering them on schedule. This fully demonstrates the professionalism, execution capability, and commitment of Chinese enterprises. He expressed hope that CAMCE would continue to leverage the dual advantages of “China Speed” and “China Quality” in the new project, enhancing the well-being of the Guyanese people through high-quality engineering and accelerating the development of Guyana’s healthcare sector,” the release stated.
“This project stands as another benchmark in implementing CAMCE’s integrated development strategy, promoting strategic synergy, value alignment, and innovation collaboration, and building a “One Core, Two Wings” development framework,” the company further stated.
CAMCE noted also that this contract signing marks another significant achievement for the company in the Guyanese market, reflecting its “high-quality execution driving rolling development” approach. It fully demonstrates CAMCE’s professional capabilities and brand influence in medical infrastructure construction and injects strong momentum into the company’s ongoing transformation into a technology-based specialized engineering enterprise,” the company disclosed.
Speaking on the government’s plans to construct the new hospital in Bartica, President Irfaan Ali back in November 2025 had stated that by the end of the first quarter of this year the project will be launched.
This facility, he said, will significantly enhance medevac capabilities and improve emergency healthcare delivery across the region, with the help of the aviation sector. “When we have medevacs, we can now have a facility in Bartica that can take care of those medevac bringing health care more efficient, saving time, saving life in emergency and that will allow us to do so,” he said.
