(Kaieteur News) – Fifty-nine-year-old Yvette Sydney is battling cervical cancer. The mother of three – two girls and a boy- was diagnosed with the dreaded disease last October and is in urgent need of financial assistance to facilitate treatment in neighboring Suriname.
Due to her condition, Sydney, of New Amsterdam, Berbice is unable to maintain employment. Her treatment is scheduled for the next five weeks, at a cost of GYD $2 million.
Her son, Junior Sydney told this publication on Friday that the family is unable to immediately obtain the funds.
Speaking on her condition, he explained that she experiences excruciating pain and is hemorrhaging. She is physically supported around the home, and manages to move on her own every now and then. He said he assists her with meal preparation.
“She can eat by herself, but to get up to cook, to go at the stove or do any type of things like that, it might be a bit hard for her. Because it’s standing, and it gives a lot of pain to her back and lower belly, so I do those things for her,”
He disclosed that surgery follows her treatment; That is after six weeks of chemotherapy and radiation, and another three weeks in Suriname. Upon her return, she will undergo surgery, he noted.
