(Kaieteur News) – A 41-year-old construction worker has been charged with manslaughter and granted $500,000 bail in relation to the fatal altercation at a shop in La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, which left a 20-year-old man dead.
Terrence Frank of Lot 86 Samatta Point Grove, East Bank Demerara, is charged with manslaughter, contrary to Section 94 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01, in relation to the death of Roberto Grant called ‘Kayan’.
He appeared on Thursday at the Wales Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Renita Singh where the charge was read to him. He was not required to plead and was granted $500,000 bail. The matter was adjourned to March 10.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at a shop.
It was reported that Frank was at the shop when an altercation reportedly occurred between him and Grant, a resident of Parfaite Harmonie. During the confrontation, both men allegedly armed themselves with objects and inflicted injuries on each other.
Frank later went to the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station and made a report and both men were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
Grant was admitted but later succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.
Police recovered a broken piece of a glass bottle at the scene and is reviewing CCTV footage.
