Kaieteur Sports – Middle-order batsmen Dhanesh Persaud and Shamar Apple stroked half-centuries as part of Georgetown’s dominant 255-run win over Upper Demerara Cricket Association (UDCA) when yesterday’s double-header in the ongoing U19 Inter-Association 50-Over tournament continued.
At Police Ground, the Georgetown Cricket Association youngsters piled on 318-8 batting first, after Persaud hammered 80 off 60 (11×4 3×6), alongside West Indies U19 star Shamar Apple, who scored another half-century, this time slamming a 42-ball 65 with 6 fours and 3 sixes.
Emmanuel Lewis punched 45 off 38 (4×4 1×6) while Jonathan Mentore scored a watchful 30 (1×4 1×6), to help the city boys to their big total.
UDCA in reply folded under the pressure of a huge chase, sliding to 63 all out with Shahid Ramzan scoring 27 not out (4×4) to go along with his 2 wickets from earlier.
Fast-bowler Jasani Craig grabbed 2-17 with assistance from Ravaldo Pereira (2-4), Samuel Ally (2-13) and Lewis (1-27), returns which kept the pressure mounting on the opposition throughout the innings.
Earlier, Lewis and Apple’s 86 run partnership set the tone for the 5th wicket 135-run stand between the pair of top-scorers in Persaud and Apple, which knocked the momentum out of the UDCA team.
Apart from Ramzan, who was by far the best performer on the UDCA in both departments, no other player managed to either reach double figures or capitalize on however small of a start they may have had, which resulted in a lopsided affair. (C. Ross)
