Kaieteur News- It was excitement throughout the day as Transport Sports club hosted its annual Draughts and billiards competitions last Sunday at the club’s venue at Thomas Lands, Georgetown.
In the Draughts Competition, Jiaram made 13 points to win the Mashramani title. Devanand Persaud from Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, with a close 12 points, finished on second, while Steve Bacchus took the third spot with 11 points. Three players finished on ten points each; Floyd Cumberbatch, Navin Meighbarran and Clarence David. However, Navin and Clarence did not contest the tie breaker leaving Floyd Cumberbatch to earn the fourth place. All winners were awarded trophies compliments of Transport Sports Club.
The Draught games were contested on the International 10×10 boards in preparation for the upcoming Pan am Draughts in Paramaribo, Suriname from April 18th 2026. Jiaram would be heading the team of three. Floyd Cumberbatch is another candidate, while the third player will be draft in shortly. Some 20 other countries would be participating.
In the billiards competition, Ramesh Das defeated Hugh Curtis in the final of the B competition to retain his title. Das was last year’s winner. Curtis took the runner-up position. In the A division the competition will continue next Sunday. Humil Wilson will come up against Terrence Bacchus in the semi-finals. The winner will play against Singh in the final to determine the champion.
Special thanks to Dr. Ivor English and Charles Greaves who played an active involvement in the day’s proceedings.
Thanks to Transport Sports club for hosting and Sponsorship for both the Draughts and billiards.
