WDCA’s Arvin Suknandand (L) and centurion Parmeshwar Ram shared an almost 250-run opening stand yesterday.
Kaieteur Sports – East Coast romped to an easy 8-wicket victory over East Bank thanks to a brilliant bowling effort led by Arun Gainda, while Parmeshwar Ram struck a devastating ton in West Demerara’s win yesterday, when U19 Inter-Association 50-over cricket continued.
East Bank Cricket Association sunk to 46 all out in the 22nd over with only two batsmen making any sort of noise, over at Police Ground.
Only Yeshua Hutson (14) and captain Joshua Buhdram (12) produced double figures with the majority of the team failing to come out the blocks.
East Coast bowling was shared up among the spinner Gainda who snatched 4-4 from 6 overs, Kaylan Callender (4-18) and Vijai Kaplu (2-14).
The reply was swift as the East Coast lads skipped to 49-2 in the 9th over with almost the entire order still intact.
Openers Munesh Outar (12) and Yannick Newton (13) set the tone for middle-order batters Trilok Nanan (9) and Junior Dindyal (8), who took the team to victory.
In a lopsided affair at the Meten-Meer-Zorg Ground, West Demerara racked up a humongous 241-0 in 30 overs, thanks to an exceptional knock of 131 off 86 balls from opener Parmeshwar Ram.
The national Youth batsman hit 9 fours and 7 sixes to finish unbeaten alongside his opening partner, Arvin Suknandand who stroked 73* with 9 fours.
Upper Demerara Cricket Association had a poor time with the ball, failing to break what may have been one of the top opening partnerships at the Inter-Association Youth level.
As a result, UDCA fell victim to spinner Navindra Sankar who gobbled up 5-24 with Ram completing a great game by adding 2 wickets to his century. (Clifton Ross)
