(Kaieteur News) – Social media personality Gabriel Harrigin who made news in Guyana recently has been remanded into prison custody having been denied bail on Wednesday during his appearance before a High Court Master on multiple criminal charges.
Harrigin, 32, of Bombay Street, St James, is charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, two counts of rape, grievous sexual assault and assault by beating. He was represented by attorney Larry Williams.
The allegations arise out of an incident reported to police on January 19. According to court documents, the complainant told officers that she went out with Harrigin, also known as “Batman” to the Ibiza Bar on Ariapita Avenue, Woodbrook, on January 18. She later attempted to leave but was allegedly forced into his vehicle and taken to his St James home.
Police allege that at the house, Harrigin prevented the woman from leaving, assaulted her and forced her into a bedroom where she was sexually assaulted. He is accused of having sexual intercourse with her without her consent on two occasions. The woman later made a report to police and was medically examined. Investigators executed a search warrant at Harrigin’s home on February 10 and seized electronic devices, which were sent to the Cyber Crime Unit for analysis. An identification parade was later conducted, and the accused was positively identified, police said. Harrigin is due to reappear in court on March 20 for a further bail hearing. (TRINIDAD EXPRESS)
