(Kaieteur News) – Dis week, news hot like pepper soup! Word come round say de government look like dem swimmin’ in money—so much so dat dem tinking fuh buy de Berbice River Bridge… wah suppose to be free next year!
Free! But dem seh nah, “Better pay now,” like yuh paying full price fuh something today when de shop giving it away tomorrow.
People out dey seh, “Is dis a golden handshake fuh de investors? A bridge mek people cross river safe, but if it is going to be free soon, why yuh rush to buy?
And leh we not forget de other ting. Some persons getting richer dan river in rainy season. People asking, “How dem all get so well-off when we catching pure hell?” One lady did seh how the cost of living so high that she need a man for weekday and another for weekend.
Well, it look like some persons gat a house for weekday, another one for weekend and a few extra fuh dem holidays. Rent rising, groceries tight, but some persons living like dem find treasure map in backyard.
Now, dem boys nah say success is a crime. But when yuh jump from salary to big money faster than speedboat, people does start talk. And yuh know how Guyanese like talk—when talk start, it spread like wildfire.
Dem boys seh de oil and gas blessing de country, but some folks seem to have dem own private oil well in de living room. Meanwhile, ordinary people still dey hustle for bread, water, and maybe a likkle sugar.
When government buy something about to be free, and officials looking like dem win lotto, perception mash up. And perception in politics? Powerful. More powerful than mosquito in wet season.
So if de bridge need fuh buy now, explain it good. Dem boys seh, if dem keep buying tings dat soon gon’ be free, people might just build dey own raft, sail de river, and start charging officials toll.
And if officials getting rich, share de secret. Everybody deserve a lil bit advice to be part of de Guyana dream.
Talk half. Leff half.
