(Kaieteur News) – Today, Guyana’s Men’s Under-17 team springs into action against Bermuda to commence their 2026 Concacaf Men’s U-17 Qualifiers campaign at the General Francisco Morazán Stadium in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
Guyana, sporting a Concacaf Ranking of 18 was drawn in Group H with today’s opponent, who is ranked 12, and Honduras – rank 5.
Suriname, ranked 30, was the other team drawn in the Group but was excluded from the tournament due to an “administrative error”, according to a statement from the Suriname Football Association (SVB).
That left the Group as the smallest in the tournament, with the teams (GUY, BER & HON) only having to play two games each in their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
There will be no room for error since only the eight (8) group winners (A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H) will advance to the prestigious event.
Meanwhile, the first Group H match is scheduled to kick off at 18:00hrs and is expected to be quite a challenge for Guyana. Both teams will be expected to put in a good performance to start since neither has ever made it past this stage.
After that, the Junior Golden Jaguars’ next assignment is the mighty Honduras, which is pitted for Sunday, February 8, at 22:00 hrs. The other match that will decide the outcome of the Group takes place on Wednesday, February 11, and features Bermuda versus Honduras.
In the previous edition of the Concacaf Under-17 Qualifiers, Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, and the United States topped their respective groups to secure qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025.
This year’s qualifiers began on February 3 and will culminate on February 12.
