(Kaieteur News) – A 19-year-old was killed in an accident along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway on Saturday March 28.
The deceased has been identified as Sarah Simon of Moblissa.
According to the police, the accident occurred around 09:45hrs in the vicinity of Rubin Sawmill and involved minibus BAK 9272, driven by a 22-year-old man of Moblissa.
It was reported that the minibus was proceeding south along the eastern side of the Moblissa Public Road at an alleged fast rate of speed when, while negotiating a left bend, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle turned turtle several times before coming to a stop on the eastern parapet.
As a result of the accident, both the driver and Simon were picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and transported to the Linden Hospital Complex.
Simon was pronounced dead on arrival, while the driver was admitted. The teen’s body was transferred to the Linden Senior Citizens Association Funeral Home, for a post-mortem examination.
Police said the vehicle has been lodged for examination by a licencing and certifying officer.
