Kaieteur Sports – Bad weather threatened the opening round of the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars U-16, 50-over bilateral series which bowled off yesterday across Guyana, Jamaica and Antigua.
At Lusignan on the East Coast, Guyana and Barbados were forced to sit out their battle after their venue was affected by recent showers.
Guyana’s opening bout versus Barbados was spoiled by rain which ravaged the country over the last few days with Saturday’s showers being the nail in the coffin following a full day of torrential rain which forced the match at Lusignan to be abandoned without a ball being bowled.
In another part of the triple-header opening round , Windward Islands beat the Leeward Islands by 55 runs during their battle at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.
Windwards posted 128 all out with Alex Armstrong leading the innings with 32 (4×4), as Ryan Marchan grabbed 5-46 bowling for the Leewards.
Leewards would however blow their shot at reaching to a gettable target after being knocked over for just 77 runs inside 33 overs.
A collective bowling effort from Jershaun Joseph (3-25), Dylan John (2-9), Amar Lavia (2-16) and Ron Charles (2-17), helped the Windwards to an emphatic win.
Both Guyana and Barbados will have another shot at each other when they square off on Tuesday at Lusignan.
