(Kaieteur News) – Three juveniles and an 18-year-old were on Friday granted $100,000 bail after they were arrested and charged in connection with a violent attack and attempted robbery at First Lady Park, Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara.
The four accused, three underage teens, all residents of Region three, and 18-year-old Shaquan Straker of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, were arrested by police on January 25 and subsequently jointly charged with the offence of attempt to commit a misdemeanor. Additionally, one of the juveniles and Straker were jointly charged with attempt to commit a felony, namely robbery with aggravation.
The incident, which occurred around 14:00 hrs on January 24, was captured on a cellphone by an eyewitness and widely described as a brazen “broad day-light robbery.”
The accused appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the Leonora Magistrates’ Court, where the charges were read to them. All four pleaded not guilty and were granted $100,000 bail each. The matter was adjourned to March 18, 2026.
The video footage showed one of the suspects grabbing items from the victim while another held him in a vice grip and wrestled him to the ground. Eyewitnesses could be heard in the background pleading for the attackers to leave the man alone.
“Hey, stop it!” a woman shouted as the suspect released the victim from his grip. He then pulled a large knife from waist and advanced to the victim before grabbing his slippers and fleeing the scene with his accomplices.
The suspects escaped in a waiting red Toyota Carina, model 192, believed to be their getaway vehicle. Police later confirmed that the vehicle bears registration number PGG 6502.
