(Kaieteur News) – A 34-year-old woman is receiving medical treatment after she was brutally attacked and shot at on Tuesday at her residence in Doctor Dam, La Grange, West Bank Demerara.
The suspect, a 39-year-old auto body technician from La Grange, is in police custody as investigations continue.
According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred around 19:00 hrs. Preliminary investigations reveal that the victim was at home, seated on her veranda with family members when the attack took place.
Police reports indicate that an unidentified masked male, dressed in dark clothing and armed with a handgun, ran into the yard, charged at the woman, and assaulted her.
“The victim reportedly fled the house and ran into a neighbouring yard, during which she was chased and struck to her back, causing her to fall and sustain injuries to her head and body. The suspect subsequently discharged two rounds in her direction before making good his escape,” police said.
The woman was subsequently transported to a private medical facility, where she is receiving treatment.
Police arrived on the scene and recovered a 9mm spent shell casing. The suspect was taken into custody. CCTV footage is being reviewed.
