Kaieteur Sports – Tonight, the Guyana Women’s Under-17 team continues their campaign at the 2026 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Qualifiers when they oppose the host team, Aruba, in their Group D encounter at the Guillermo Prospero Trinidad Stadium, Oranjestad, Aruba.
Guyana commenced their journey on Sunday at the same venue against Jamaica and secured a 1 – 1 result to claim a point. As such, the Junior Lady Jags sit third in the Group behind the high-ranked Honduras (1st – 6 points) and Jamaica (2nd – 4 points), while Aruba and St. Vincent and the Grenadines are yet to get on the Points table.
The Group is a challenging draw for Guyana, who are ranked 17th among the 41 Concacaf Nations, as the Group D leaders are ranked 9th and 13th, respectively. Only the six Group winners (A, B, C, D, E and F) and the best two second-place finishers will advance to the Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Qualifiers Final Round.
Although a goal-populated draw was a good start, the Guyana team now has no room for error if they have hopes of progressing to the next round and must also hope other results in Group D fall in their favour.
After this evening’s encounter with the ranked-33 team, Guyana’s next task will be the toughest when they face Honduras on Sunday, January 31. The Group leader will be energised after a 15 – 0 win over Aruba in their most recent encounter.
To close off Guyana’s Round One Group stage, they go head-to-head with 28th-ranked, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, on February 2.
Meanwhile, Sunday’s battle against Jamaica was an intriguing one with what seemed like matched skills as the two sides evenly shared possession, corners and almost a similar amount of shots on goal. However, after a goalless first half, the Lady Jaguars were able to draw first blood when Alexaudria Chasles buried a left-footed shot from the centre of the box to pierce the bottom right corner.
With regulation time swiftly approaching, Jamaica was able to equalise in the 85th minute through an excellent Nycolette Predergas shot that found the top corner.
Tonight’s match, which kicks off at 20:00hrs (8pm), is expected to feature a confident Guyana squad as they oppose a team that has suffered two consecutive losses but will have heavy support from the home fans.
Guyana U17 Squad: Jasmine Solomon-Ross (GK), Alexis Mars (GK), Sara Ernest (GK), Aliyah John, Ella Yhip, Kuleni Springer, Lily Biffin, Avril Pasvolsky, Laila Ross, Laila So, Caraleena Elliston, Sydney Glean, Kimora Edwards, Arianna Chin, Carissa Lombardi, Ellie Biffin, Ayah Stewart, Alexaudria Chasles, Tanya De Vair, Anaya Joseph and Eleanna Isaacs.
