Kaieteur Sports – A whirlwind ton from opener Zacahry Carter, coupled with 6 wickets from seamer Shaquan Belle propelled the West Indies to a commanding 55-run win over South Africa; when action in Group D continued yesterday.
Man-of-the-match Carter was the backbone of the innings, laying a platform which set the tone for the Windies eventually racking up 234 all out. The left-hander, who was showing signs of being due a big score, finally broke the shackles with a majestic knock of 114 runs off 104 balls; nailing 8 sixes and as many fours as he put on a show with the bat.

Guyanese Vice-Captain Joshua Van Lange (29), Captain Joshua Dorne (20), Belle (18) who would go on to have a fantastic game with the ball and in-form opener Tanez Francis (14); were the primary scorers for the Caribbean side.
South Africa left-arm medium-pacer JJ Basson was incredible with the ball, snaring impressive figures of 5-23 from his 10 overs, with support from left-arm spinner Jason Rowles (2-44), along with a wicket each from three other bowlers.
The young Proteas side then succumbed to some sublime bowling by the right-arm medium pacer Belle, who much like Basson earlier, took full advantage of what seemed to be an excellent surface for fast-bowling as he raked in figures of 6-40 by the time his 10-over quota ended; leaving South Africa in disarray for 179 all out in the 35th over.

Belle, who ripped out two early wickets in Adnaan Lagadien (10) and Captain Muhammed Bulbulia (3), both caught by spinner Vitel Lawes who was a bit expensive going for 1-60 during his spell.
Rowles returned to score a brisk 46 (4×4 2×6), but contributions from wicket-keeper Lethabo Phahlamohlaka (26), opener Jorich Van Schalkwyk (20), Daniel Bosman (19), and Armaan Manak (17), failed to get their team to the required target.
A wicket each from Isar-el Morton, Jakeem Pollard along with the scalp from Lawes, helped keep their opponents bottled up, as they secured a much-needed win to cement the 2nd place spot of Group D.
Carter’s knock should add more confidence to the Windies team, which needed as many top individual performers and performances as they can get, with the Cup heading into the deeper stages.
Afghanistan currently sit atop the Group D rankings followed by the Windies with 4 and South Africa in 3rd place with 2 points, while the home team Tanzania after losing all three of their encounters; sit in last place with 0 points. (Clifton Ross)
