(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported Friday that ranks seized unlicensed firearm and ammunition from a 37-year-old-male security guard on duty at a supermarket in Plaisance.
In a statement to the media, police said an investigation has been launched into the discovery, which was made around 19:30hrs during an intelligence-led operation.
“During the operation, ranks on motorcycle patrol went to a supermarket located in Plaisance, where they observed a security guard on duty with what appeared to be a firearm tucked in the front waistband of his pants,” police said.
The guard was approached and questioned by the ranks, during which the 9mm pistol and a magazine with three matching live rounds were found on his person. Enquiries revealed that he was not the holder of a firearm license nor a precept.
The suspect of South Ruimveldt Georgetown, was subsequently escorted to the Sparendaam Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were processed and lodged pending investigation. He remains in police custody.
