(Kaieteur News) – A 47-year-old labourer was arrested on Friday following the discovery of a gun and ammunition at Number 66 Village Backlands, Berbice.
In a statement on Saturday, the Guyana Police Force said that the discovery was made during an intelligence led operation, around 16:00hrs.
“During the operation, ranks went to the area, where searches were carried out. While the exercise was in progress, two unidentified males were seen in a boat and subsequently escaped into nearby bushes. A search was then conducted on the abandoned boat, during which a suspected 16-gauge shotgun and twelve 16-gauge cartridges were found,” police said.
The labourer remains in custody assisting with investigations.
The weapon and the ammunition have been lodged.
