(Kaieteur News) – An accident victim, who was discharged from hospital a few days ago, is claiming that the police have charged the wrong person for dangerous driving.
The victim Khemraj Sookhoo was reportedly struck off his Honda XR motorcycle by a car on March 6 along the public road at Number 67 village, Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six.
According to Sookhoo, a male driver hit him off his motorcycle, but when police took his statement, he learnt that the driver’s sister was charged for the accident.
He has since disclosed this information to police and claims that he is in possession of a cellphone recorded video of the male driver allegedly advising persons to call his sister.
Allegations are that the male’s sister took the rap for the accident because the driver was underaged and unlicensed.
Kaieteur News understands that the matter is once again engaging the attention of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Shalimar Ali-Hack SC.
Recounting the details of the accident, Sookhoo told Kaieteur News, “A was going home one afternoon from work, me and one a meh co-workers from the village and this bai just mek one sudden turn and come ova in me lane.”
The last thing he recalled is being thrown from his bike by the impact.
Hours later, he woke up on a hospital bed. Sookhoo said he later learnt that he was picked up unconscious at the scene.
He suffered multiple fractures and other injuries to his body.
