The launch of the $123 million Search and Rescue Information Management System, which was held on Monday at CJIA’s Control Tower.
According to information provided by the ministry, the software will eliminate manual information gathering and boost interagency coordination, making aviation search and rescue operations in Guyana seamless.
The ministry noted that prior to the acquisition of the software, plotting was done manually on locally printed charts and maps. The availability of required information was obtained through coordination between agencies and required maximum human interface.
Addressing the ceremony, Minister Indar said the Search and Rescue Information and Management System will ensure that search and rescue operations are coordinated between local and international partners promptly and with greater reliability.
“The Minister further stated that the software, for which 16 persons have received training, will enable the swift design and implementation of search and rescue plans for aviation emergencies. A similar system is being developed for the maritime sector,” the ministry shared. The Minister added that the government will continue to invest and develop policies to stimulate the growth and safety of the aviation sector.
