(Kaieteur News) – In an increasingly competitive and quality-driven environment, continuous learning is essential for building competence and organisational growth. Through targeted training courses premised on National and International Standards, the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) is rolling out new programmes aimed at helping businesses improve their effectiveness and address gaps in their management systems and documentation.
Over the last two decades, the Business Development team of GNBS has been providing training to educate individuals, businesses and regulators throughout the country on the requirements, implementation and benefits of standards.
This year, the Bureau’s training programmes commence from February 03, with the first course being on Quality Management System Principles, which are crucial for organisations desirous of demonstrating quality at all levels to the stakeholders.
Indeed today, the expansion of the local economy with the influx of foreign investors and joint ventures necessitates the implementation of management systems and standards by more companies looking to meet market requirements, safety, efficiency and product and service quality. GNBS prides itself on being capable of providing training to meet these needs.
The bureau’s cadre of experienced and qualified trainers, each of whom holds certifications in internationally recognized standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO/IEC 17025 can meticulously clarify the various concepts to help individuals understand the requirements of these standards, as well as how to implement them within their operations.
Additionally, some companies are facing challenges in upkeeping their management systems especially in the areas of reviews, document control and addressing non-conformances. The Bureau’s Business Development team will embark on aiding businesses in addressing these challenges through the addition of three new one-day courses to its training schedule. These courses are the Overview of the Management Review Process, Understanding Document Control Process and Identification of Nonconformity and the Corrective Action process.
The Overview of the Management Review Process Course will cover thirteen (13) crucial aspects and their importance to the smooth functioning of a QMS. The aspects include internal audits, management review meetings, complaints, review of requests, and feedback.
Meanwhile, recognizing that many leaders within organisations and businesses do not understand the importance of document control, the training on Understanding Document Control Process will address the importance of following processes for reports. It will cover the implications of using uncontrolled or outdated documents, labelling documents appropriately for continuation within the company or organisation and will help to ensure the systems are followed to reduce errors and promote greater accountability.
And finally, the training on Identification of Nonconformity and the Corrective Action process will help participants to identify the root causes of issues within their organisations and to implement long-term corrective actions. These new courses are scheduled for March 2026 and interested individuals and organisations are encouraged to register early with the GNBS.
Further, this year’s schedule includes courses on ISO 45001:2018 – Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems, ISO 22000:2018 – Food Safety Management Systems, Risk Analysis, Good Manufacturing Practices, Introduction to Metrology, and IRCA Lead Auditor for ISO 45001:2018. These will be conducted year-round in-person, virtually, or hybrid to ensure that individuals and organisations can conveniently capitalize on them.
