Kaieteur Sports – The wait is over, and the place to be is the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) tomorrow, Boxing Day, December 26.
All roads lead to the KMTC as thousands of fans are expected to pour into the famous venue for their annual Boxing Day Horserace meet where a bumper crowd is anticipated to gather.
Situated at Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice, the venue is touted as the best in terms of hosting horserace meets. The venue is in excellent condition with the track ready for action and a riveting and pulsating day of racing is in store.
There are seven events listed for the day with a sumptuous sum of over $10M at stake in cash trophies and other incentives and 73 horses have entered to take to the track and the day’s event is expected to be entertaining.
The feature event, which is open to all horses in Guyana, will see the animals battling for the Sunny Kharag Memorial Stakes worth over $4M and trophy. An exhilarating battle is in the making with the likes of Beckham James, Stats, Stormy Victory, Loyal Company, Anthem King, Companheiro Leal, Mapa Do Brazil and Order and Progress looking to progress first to the line in their quest to take home the $2M winners’ money and trophy over one mile.
The sprint classic event over five furlongs is expected to be fast as most of the top sprinters in the country have taken entry as they dash over the turf for the $700,000 and trophy available for the winner.
All of the other events have full gates with some having as much as 20 entries.
The other races on the cards are the G class event for a top prize of $500,000 and a trophy.
The event for Guyana-Bred 2-year-old maiden animals; One for “I” and lower horses; the race for L and K class animals and the event for L and lower horses.
Winners in those events will all take home $350,000 and a trophy.
There are 21 sponsors on board, which includes: Trophy Stall, P and P Insurance Brokers, Colin Elcock Delmur Company Limited, Kharag Family of USA, Nand Persaud and Company Limited, Patsan Trading Establishment, Mike’s Pharmacy, N and S Matai the Food Market, Js Supermarket, Poonai Pharmacy, Khanai’s Guyana Electrical Agency and Dalip Trading Limited.
Incentives will be presented to the outstanding jockeys, trainers and stable compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall.
The event will be conducted using the rules of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club. Bugle time is 12:30hrs.
