(Kaieteur News) – A Sunday brawl at a liquor shop in the Cuyuni ended in terror after a 42-year-old gold miner was stabbed to death.
The victim has been identified as Michael John Benn called “Mikey”, a gold miner of Charity, Essequibo Coast.
The incident occurred at approximately 02:00 hrs at Aranguy Landing, Cuyuni River.
A statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF) stated that at the time of the incident, Benn was at a liquor shop where he became involved in an altercation with two males, during which he sustained stab wounds to his chest.
One suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigation. The other suspect remains on the run.
“The body is presently stored at the Aranka Police Station awaiting transportation to the Bartica Regional Hospital where a post-mortem examination is to be conducted,” police said.
Investigations are continuing.
