(Kaieteur News) – Police are investigating a brutal early-morning robbery that claimed the life of a 61-year-old businessman and left his colleague injured after the two were attacked by knife-wielding assailants at their Cumberland Village, East Canje, Berbice residence around 05:00hrs on Monday.
In a press release police said they are investigating the murder which occurred about 05:00hrs at Cumberland Village, East Canje, Berbice which resulted in the death of Chen Yongping, a 61-year-old businessman and injuries to a 32-year-old business colleague of the same address.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the two victims had returned home after travelling earlier that morning when they were confronted by two identifiable males armed with knives, who allegedly robbed them of a quantity of Guyana currency and mobile phones.
During the incident, both victims sustained injuries and stab wounds and were escorted to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for medical treatment where Yongping succumbed to his injuries while receiving care and the injured male was subsequently discharged. The body of the deceased is presently at a funeral parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination. The suspects are presently being sought as investigations continue.
