(Kaieteur News) – The critical role of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in safeguarding public safety and strengthening crime-fighting efforts was underscored on Monday when the Guyana Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID) hosted its Annual Christmas Luncheon and Awards Ceremony at the Police Officers’ Mess Annexe, Eve Leary.
According to a Guyana Police Force press release, delivering remarks at the ceremony, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law Enforcement), Mr. Wendell Blanhum, highlighted the CID’s central responsibility in the prevention, detection and prosecution of crime. He praised the dedication and professionalism of detectives across regions and specialised units, noting that their collaborative efforts continue to enhance investigative outcomes and public confidence in law enforcement. Deputy Commissioner Blanhum also acknowledged the growing contributions of female ranks within the Department, noting that their performance continues to strengthen investigative capacity and service delivery.
The release added that Commissioner of Police Mr. Clifton Hicken commended the ranks of the CID for their professionalism, discipline and commitment to service. He reaffirmed the importance of integrity, accountability and continuous self-improvement, while encouraging ranks to remain steadfast in upholding the core values of the Guyana Police Force. The Commissioner also extended Christmas greetings and best wishes for a safe, productive and successful New Year to all ranks and their families.
Meanwhile, the ceremony recognised the exceptional performance of Deputy Superintendent Fiona Fredericks who was named CID Headquarters Best Cop for 2025. Deputy Superintendent Fredericks also recently secured the title of Best Cop of the Guyana Police Force, marking a significant milestone in her policing career and underscoring the continued rise of women in leadership within the Force. Sergeant Ravindra Beepat was named runner-up.

As part of the recognition, Deputy Superintendent Fredericks, in addition to receiving an incentive and trophy from the Guyana Police Force was awarded a trip for two to the United States of America sponsored by Mr. Suresh Jagmohan, a full spa package from Miss Cui Salon and Spa and gifts from Mr. Samuels, China Trading, Colours Boutique, RK’s Security, Dr. Sarah Hack and Sanjay’s Jewelry. Sergeant Ravindra Beepat, in addition to receiving an incentive and trophy from the Force also received gifts from Mr. Samuels, China Trading, Exclusive Styles, RK’s Security and Queensway Security.
Fredericks in an accepting speech expressed deep gratitude and humility for the recognition. She thanked God for guidance and extended appreciation to the Commissioner of Police, senior leadership and the ranks of the Criminal Investigation Department for their support and confidence in her leadership. Fredericks noted that receiving the awards during the tenure of the Minister of Home Affairs, Ms. Oneidge Walrond served as a powerful affirmation that excellence within the Guyana Police Force knows no gender. She dedicated the awards to her colleagues, particularly the ranks of the Narcotics Branch and CID, emphasising that the achievements reflected collective effort, unity and perseverance. Awards were presented across several categories during the ceremony. Academic awards were conferred on nine ranks who recently graduated from the University of Guyana. Fourteen ranks from departments within the Criminal Investigation Department were recognised for outstanding performance. Awards were also presented for Regional Detectives Best Cop, along with commendations to supporting stakeholders for their contributions to policing and crime-fighting efforts.
The event also featured musical renditions by the Guyana Police Force Band and cultural performances, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. Also in attendance were Director of Public Prosecutions Ms. Shalimar Ali-Hack, National Security Advisor Captain Gerry Gouveia Snr., Deputy Commissioner ‘Administration’ Mr. Ravindradat Budhram, Deputy Commissioner and Head of SOCU Mr. Fazil Karimbaksh, Deputy Commissioner Simon McBean, senior and junior officers, other ranks and stakeholders.
