PPP and corruption

Dear Editor,

While going through my cell phone, quite by accident, I came upon an interview with a British broadcaster and President Dr. Irfaan Ali, anyone who knows Guyana could not help being disgusted, apart from his difficulty with grammar, our illustrious president devoted the interview to talking about the previous government dictatorship, he did not provide any evidence, but kept beating the old drum of PNC dictatorship.

He skilfully avoided what we in Guyana know to be corruption at all levels of his government. The question of the PPP executive member and permanent secretary who allegedly facilitated all sorts of corrupt transactions with respect to gold operations were skilfully sidestepped. He reminded the British interviewer that they were doing a fantastic job when it comes to food production, but did not recall that it was the Burnham regime that articulated, and worked in difficult circumstances to achieve food security, the famous FCH plan – feed, clothed, and house the nation.

They have abandoned the Berbice River taxi service. They have had their supporters taken over ancestral lands. Spent millions on the construction of roads, and already more millions are being spent to repair these roads. President Ali told his interviewer that they are dealing with the pressure on ordinary people because of the high cost-of-living.

The PPP shouted from the roof-tops that they will renegotiate the terrible oil contract, there is a deafening silence on this matter since they took office. Many citizens can tell you about corruption at all levels, from some policemen on the streets, to the top brass. I ask the question, which is worse; corruption, and failure to give information, or what the PPP claim in the interview to be a dictatorship?
