(Kaieteur News) – A woman was arrested for assaulting a police inspector and causing a disturbance at a private school. Both incidents took place in Lusignan village, East Coast Demerara.
In a statement Friday, police said an investigation has been launched by ranks in Regional Division #4‘C’ into an incident that occurred on Thursday, involving ranks responding to reports of disorderly behaviour at a private school in Lusignan.
“Initial inquiries revealed that about 19:30hrs, Police ranks responded to information received about a disturbance at the school. Upon arrival, ranks observed a 36-year-old female of Good Hope, ECD, armed with a baseball bat and behaving in a disorderly manner while confronting two individuals at the location. The female was warned about her behaviour and she left the area,” police said.
The two individuals, a 34-year-old businessman of Annandale West, ECD and a 23-year-old female of Lusignan, ECD – visited the Lusignan police outpost and made a report.
During the process of addressing the report, the same female went to the address of the duo that made the report in Lusignan and once again behaved in a disorderly manner. Police responded and it was during efforts to arrest her that she assaulted a police inspector, while resisting arrest causing injuries to the rank and damage to her uniform.
“Assistance was provided and the suspect was arrested and escorted to the outpost where she was placed in custody. The inspector was later escorted for medical attention. She was seen by medical personnel and treated for her injuries,” the police further stated.
The suspect was granted station bail and is slated to appear at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court on Monday December 8, where she will answer several charges including abusive language, disorderly behaviour, assault, damage to property, assault causing bodily harm and resisting arrest.
