– Teams briefed and Uniforms distributed

Kashif and Shanghai distributed uniforms to the 20 participating schools expected to compete in the schoolboy’s phase of the President’s Futsal championship. Representatives from each school pose for photo-op with Director Kashif Muhammad and organising staff of the tournament
Kaieteur Sports – The Kashif and Shanghai (K&S) Organisation yesterday convened a meeting with representatives of the 20 participating schools for the inaugural Schoolboys segment of the President’s Futsal Championship, scheduled for December 9 to January 2 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), Homestretch Avenue.
This year’s tournament will also feature a 48-team Men’s Senior Division and an eight-team Female Division. Co-Director of the K&S Organisation, Kashif Muhammad, led a briefing and uniform distribution exercise, aimed at ensuring teams are fully prepared with just over a week remaining before kickoff.
Following two years of successful futsal events, organisers have expanded the championship to include a schoolboy’s category. According to K&S, the addition was inspired in part by the Inter-Guiana Games, which recently incorporated futsal into its competition roster. Although Guyana showed promise at the Games, the nation exited in the early rounds, prompting organisers to recognise the need for stronger development at the youth level.
Muhammad explained that once schools and the Ministry of Education were consulted, interest in the new segment was immediate. “The main reason behind doing the school futsal championship is because we think that futsal is the foundation of real, big-time football,” he told this publication.
He added that futsal will play a crucial role in Guyana’s broader football ambitions. “If we are to eventually create a World Cup team, we need to get futsal started in Guyana in a very serious way. This will be the nursery for football, and then eventually the players can progress to higher levels and transition to big-field football.”
Muhammad noted that Guyana has consistently faced countries such as Suriname in the Inter-Guiana Games and stressed the importance of improving the national teams’ competitiveness. “Once we get started with schoolboy’s futsal, this is the ideal age—Under-18—and we believe great things will come from it. We are extremely happy that the Government of Guyana, through His Excellency President Ali, has supported this venture. They are supporting the Schoolboys tournament, the Female tournament, and, for the third time, the Senior Men’s Championship.”
The prize structure for the Schoolboys division will be issued in kind. According to Muhammad, 50 percent of earnings will go directly to the schools, while the remaining 50 percent will be distributed to players in the form of gift vouchers redeemable at MVP Sports Store.
A total prize pool of $1.5 million will be shared among the top four finishers. The champions will claim $750,000 along with a trophy and medals. Second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $350,000, $250,000, and $150,000 respectively.
The tournament opens on December 9, with the March Past scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The Senior Men’s Championship will kick off later that evening.
