Kaieteur Sports – NBA Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon is officially the newest high-profile investor in Guyana, acquiring two luxury residences in the upscale TAJ DIAMOND community, one of the country’s most ambitious and rapidly expanding residential developments.
The former Houston Rockets star, widely regarded as one of the greatest centres in basketball history, has been quietly exploring investment opportunities in Guyana for more than a year.
His interest, he said, was solidified after several visits during which he met with President Dr Irfaan Ali, key government officials, and members of the local sports community.
Olajuwon, who has built a respected portfolio in real estate across Houston and international markets, signalled that his involvement will not end with home ownership. He revealed he is actively considering future joint ventures with Coastal Rim Properties, developers of TAJ DIAMOND, both in Guyana and abroad.
In a parallel boost for the project, South Korea’s Gudo Investment Management Co, Ltd, in partnership with US-based Gudo Partners LLC, has made a substantial institutional investment in multiple rental properties within TAJ DIAMOND.
The move is significant, marking one of the earliest large-scale injections of institutional capital into Guyana’s real estate landscape.
Launched with early-bird pricing at US$250,000 per home, TAJ DIAMOND has seen such strong demand that entry prices have climbed to US$400,000, with developers anticipating routine increases every one to two months.
Nearly half of the units have already been reserved. The master-planned development, which stretches along the East Bank Corridor from Diamond to Buzz Bee Dam, will feature 218 three-storey luxury homes, each with private garages, gated access, and 24/7 armed security.
Residents will also enjoy a suite of resort-style amenities, including a modern clubhouse
Swimming pool, Cinema, fully equipped fitness centre, 40,000 sq. ft of retail and dining space, anchored by Morton’s The Steakhouse and an optional fixed 14% yield leaseback programme for investors.
