Kaieteur Sports – After tightening their grip on the series 2-0, hosts Guyana will be keen on maintaining their position of power heading into today’s 3rd match at the Lusignan Ground.
Local skipper Lomar Seecharran has been the man of the series thus far, scoring back-to-back fifties with his last knock of 82* almost being a triple figure milestone; but has already racked up more than 100 runs from his two of appearances.
In-form batsmen like Shahid Gajnabi, Afraz Ali, Makai Dowlin and others have been in good touch, with a number of other talented prospects within the line-up having the potential to deliver.
The Bajans have been in decent shape with the bat but have lacked the killer-instinct to match the aggression displayed by Guyana, with Natarie Lavine leading their scoring with a classy 65.
Not much came from Barbados during the first two games, as the Guyanese bowling unit managed to hit the ground running as they have done an excellent job in keeping the visitors under 150 runs, twice.
Openers Jon David-Greene and Oliver King will need to keep Barbados afloat following a weak two games, but with Zdari Scantlebury in good form alongside all-rounders like Ky-mani Inniss and Niako Patterson in decent form, Barbados could likely stave off a quick defeat.
Guyana’s mixed bowling options have been the key along with the batting form of their captain Seecharran, as spinner Deshawn Ramnauth and seamer Jasani Craig have kept the Bajans in check since their arrival.
Ahead of their shift in venue to the Everest Ground, today’s third match could either finish with Guyana wrapping things up in a hurry or with the visitors punching their ticket to a much-needed, series-saving win.
Meanwhile, the GCB announced ahead of today’s match that new players will be added to the squad.
Those new faces include; Brandon Grimmond, Afridi Khan, Daquan Lewis, Aaron DeCosta, Daniel Johnson, Ajay Kissoon and Hezekiah Hohenkirk.
The players’ inclusion reflects their strong performances and continued development and they will now take the next step in their cricket journey. (Clifton Ross)
