(Kaieteur News) – Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha on Saturday unveiled a fresh wave of agricultural initiatives for Region Ten during a community meeting with residents and farmers at the Christianburg Community Centre.
According to a Department of Public Information (DPI) press release, Mustapha underscored Linden’s growing role in the national food system, pointing to major investments the PPP/C government has already pumped into the region. Among them is the state-of-the-art hydroponic facility that trains and employs young people, an initiative he said reflects President Irfaan Ali’s push for stronger youth and female participation in agriculture.
The minister announced that the Naibingi Association’s request for a shade house has been approved, with delivery set for the coming days. He also placed heavy emphasis on ensuring the region’s agro-processing facility operates daily, noting that several major companies have already expressed interest in sourcing local produce.
He urged farmers to ramp up production to meet the expected spike in demand. As part of the broader diversification plan for Region Ten, Mustapha said support will be extended to livestock farmers, including efforts to develop a Black Belly Sheep brand in Linden. He further committed to expanding access to farmland, increasing support for new entrants, and boosting milk production in Moblissa, measures he said will open up new income streams for residents. Mustapha encouraged farmers to partner closely with government, stressing that Region Ten is poised for significant agricultural growth as the sector continues to diversify.
