Nov 19, 2025 Dem Boys Seh, Features / Columnists
(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh yesterday was a whole documentary ‘bout how police does operate pon de road. Not once, but twice dem boys see de same scene replay like a bad rerun. Police stop a man car. And on both occasions, de popo sit down in dem car and wait on de alleged errant driver to come to them.
Dem boys seh is suh now? Since when de driver must march to de police like he going to pay homage to royalty? Last time dem boys check, is de police supposed to leave dem chariot, walk to de vehicle, and talk to de driver. But some o’ dem—only some—feel dem is kings and dukes. Dem sit down cross-foot in de pickup like throne, waiting fuh de “subjects” to approach and genuflect.
Dem boys seh if dis continue, next thing yuh gon see is police stretching out dem foot and asking citizen fuh polish dem boot before talking. Time fuh de traffic authorities to issue a lil directive: “Officers, get off y’all backside and go to the driver’s vehicle.” Simple. Basic. Primary school logic. But apparently logic shortage hit de Force too.
And while we pon de traffic matter, dem boys seh dis whole idea of raising traffic fines is bare madness. Government believe high fines gon stop bad driving. But dem boys seh all it gon do is make some corrupt police rub dem hand and start calculating like is CSEC Maths Paper Two. Bigger fines mean bigger bribe. Simple equation. Dem gon start whispering to drivers: “Boss man, de fine is $50,000, but settle me with $20,000 and we done.”
Dem boys seh instead o’ trying to frighten drivers with big numbers, invest in technology. Speed cameras don’t take bribe, radar gun don’t wink, and CCTV don’t negotiate. Technology don’t ask nobody to walk from vehicle to vehicle; it does catch yuh clean and clear.
So, while some police behaving like monarchs, dem boys seh bring de cameras, bring de gadgets, bring de accountability. Until then, drivers better keep dey shoes clean—never know when yuh gon be summoned to de royal pickup.
Talk half. Leff half.
