(Kaieteur News) – The case involving the deadly terrorist attack continued on Wednesday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court with all of the accused further remanded as further disclosures were presented.
Appearing before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty were the accused: 33-year-old Venezuelan Daniel Alexander Ramirez Poedemo, 44-year-old Venezuelan Alexander Bettancourt, Venezuelan national Krystal LaCruz, and Guyanese national Johnny Boodram. Prosecutors presented additional disclosures, and another date was set for the submission of final documents.
Boodram’s attorney, Mikel Puran, told reporters that he had requested several documents from the police, including the station diary, charge sheet, and feeding books covering the period from October 27 to November 3 — the time during which Boodram was in custody until he was brought before the court. “That would have been when Johnny Boodram was in custody till when he was placed before the court, which is standard. And I also requested the originals of Johnny Boodram’s taxi service ID and his base receipts, which are in the car,” Puran stated.
Explaining the next steps in the proceedings, Puran said, “They have to disclose whoever else they want to disclose, plus what I requested. And then after that, the paper committal proceedings start. I would be given a chance to file my statements afterwards.” All defendants were further remanded, and the matter was adjourned to December 3, 2025.
Meanwhile, the cases involving other suspects; Wayne Correia, 44, Ramesh Pramdeo, and Jennifer Rodriguez, are scheduled to be called on November 24.
Boodram’s attorney also expressed concern over how the police have been handling the case, accusing them of “abusing the course” by implicating multiple individuals without sufficient cause. “What I think is more concerning for the public to know is that Johnny Boodram’s wife made a post on Facebook two days after he was remanded. The police said she tried to commit a cybercrime. I asked, what was the nature of this cybercrime really? And it relates to the Facebook post she made. When I looked at the post, it was just videos showing the owner of Standard Taxi Base Service removing the taxi logo from the car before police arrested Johnny Boodram. It’s vital that the logo remain there for Johnny’s key evidence to show that it is a taxi vehicle,” Puran said.
Last week the suspects made their first appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for the deadly October 26 bombing at the Mobil Gas Station on Regent Street, Georgetown. Poedemo faced a separate charge of committing an act of terrorism on October 26, with intent to threaten the sovereignty and security of Guyana or to strike terror among the population. He allegedly used an explosive device at the Mobil Fuel Station at Regent and King Streets, Lacytown, Georgetown, which resulted in the death of six-year-old Soraya Bourne. Poedemo was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.
Bettancourt, LaCruz, and Boodram were jointly charged with aiding and abetting Poedemo in carrying out the bombing. They were also not required to enter pleas. All accused were remanded to prison, with the Guyanese defendants maintaining their innocence in the attack. All were unrepresented except Boodram.
