(Kaieteur News) – Hundreds of residents of the Haslington South New Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara are risking their lives daily as they traverse this rickety, dilapidated bridge, the only entry and exit point to their community.

Despite repeated complaints to the NDC and government, the structure remains unrepaired.
On Friday, a schoolboy narrowly escaped serious injury when his bicycle wheel got stuck in one of the gaping holes on the bridge—a near-tragedy that has reignited outrage among villagers.
Residents say they are fed up with empty promises and neglect. On Monday, they issued a stern warning: if urgent repairs are not done immediately, they will block the bridge in protest. “This is a disaster waiting to happen,” one resident lamented. “We’ve begged for help for months. Must someone die before they fix it?”
