(Kaieteur News) – President Irfaan Ali on Monday met with the grieving families of the victims of the October 26 bombing at the Mobil Gas Station on Regent Street, a violent attack that claimed the life of six-year-old Soraya Bourne and injured seven others, including her young cousins, aunt, and 71-year-old grandmother.

According to a release from the Office of the President, during the meeting with the families at State House, President Ali promised “swift justice” and confirmed that the Guyana Police Force has been interrogating the suspect who has since confessed to the crime to determine his motives for the “horrific act”.
The President during his engagement also updated the families on the findings to date. “He told the parents of six-year-old Soraya Bourne, who died in the incident, that the Government would assist them in every possible way,” the Office of the President stated.
During his meeting, the Head of State told the families that the government would use every available tool to help them and those injured to return to some form of normalcy.
It was reported that the Mobil Gas Station was bombed around 19:30hrs on Sunday October 26, killing six-year-old Bourne and injuring seven others. The blast also caused significant damage to the gas station and several vehicles, while affecting nearby buildings.
