Dear Editor,
It breaks my heart to see what has become of the Bamia Primary School project in Region 10. This school was supposed to bring hope to our children, a place where they could learn in comfort, safety, and dignity. Instead, after four long years of waiting, all we have is an unfinished building, mounting costs, and empty promises.
The construction started back in November 2021, and since then the project has been pushed back time and time again. The deadlines keep changing, and yet the school remains incomplete. Every time the government says “soon,” another year passes, and our children continue to suffer. It’s a painful reminder of how this PPP government has neglected the people of Linden and Region 10.
Millions of taxpayers’ dollars have already gone into this project, and yet there is nothing to show for it. No proper explanation, no accountability, just more excuses. Meanwhile, our children are forced to learn in overcrowded and uncomfortable conditions while a half-finished building stands as a monument of failure.
This government seems to find money for fanfare and foreign trips, but not for the children of the hinterland and mining communities who depend on proper education to change their lives. It is disgraceful and disheartening that a school, something so basic and essential, has become another political football and symbol of broken promises.
The people of Region 10 deserve better. Our children deserve better. The PPP government must come clean on this project, tell the nation how many times the contract has been extended, how much money has been spent, and why after four years the Bamia Primary School is still unfinished.
We are tired of hearing “soon.” We need results not more excuses.
Sincerely,
Lorenzo Joseph
