(Kaieteur News) – Huawei on Tuesday officially launched Huawei eKit, a new sub-brand aimed at bringing affordable digital solutions to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), schools, and households across Guyana.
The launch ceremony, held at the Orchid Hall, Royal Hotel, Mandela Avenue, marked Huawei’s first authorised retail and distribution hub in Guyana—a move that underscores China and Guyana’s deepening partnership in advancing digital transformation, the company said. Already available in more than 100 countries, Huawei eKit focuses on bridging the digital divide through smart, reliable, and secure technologies. Its product line ranges from smart classroom systems supporting Guyana’s education sector, to network and security solutions for businesses, digital infrastructure for healthcare and hospitality, and smart home technologies all backed by international technical service and local expertise.
Delivering the opening remarks at Tuesday’s launch, Project Manager Janelle Persaud stated that Huawei eKit is designed to meet the needs of economies like Guyana which see digital solutions that are affordable and easy to install.
“So when we first talked about bringing Huawei eKit to Guyana, we were driven, of course, by the opportunity to sell devices and technology, but significantly, this investment was a way to position ourselves alongside Guyana’s current transformative trajectories. One defined by connectivity, infrastructure, growth and wealth, possibility, all principles that align with the brand. As the country builds roads and bridges, it opens up new industries, expands communities and prepares itself to participate more fully in a digital economy. We ask ourselves questions, how can we complement that, what tools are needed to help businesses function better, to equip new offices, schools, hotels, government agencies with high quality, cost effective technology, Huawei eKit was our answer to those questions,” she stated.
The Project Manager added to better provide their services they are collaborating with existing internet service providers, resellers and IT consultants.
Representing Prime Minister, Mark Phillips at the event was Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McCoy hailed the partnership between Guyana and the global tech giant as a powerful symbol of confidence in Guyana’s economy and digital future. The minister noted that the establishment of Huawei’s authorised hub is an investment which also aligns with the government’s vision for and actions toward a digital-first economy.
McCoy added that through initiatives like Huawei’s eKit, local businesses can access affordable technology and smarter connectivity which allows those small and medium-sized enterprises to adopt digital tools, modernise their operations, and increase their potential for competition in the connected global economy.
“The project reflects a milestone in the partnership between Huawei and our country’s digital transformation agenda. It aims to facilitate the global supply and distribution of digital devices solutions, enhance access to digital tools and support training and local capacity development,” he noted in his remarks. Attending the ceremony also was Director of Commercial and Distribution Sales for Multi Countries at Huawei, Lin Liang who said the eKit aims to accelerate small, medium enterprises to embrace the digital transformation.
