(Kaieteur News) – Guyana now faces one of its most precarious and unsettling moments in recent history, one that demands maturity, unity, and a focus on the national interest above partisan politics, the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Movement has said as it reacted to the gas station bombing Sunday night on Regent Street.

In a statement, the party extends its deepest condolences to the family of six-year-old Soraya Bourne, who lost her life tragically in the October 26, 2025 explosion at the Mobil Gas Station on Regent and King Streets, Georgetown. “We also wish a full and speedy recovery to the other victims injured in this horrific incident.”
According to police reports, CCTV footage captured a man believed to be a Spanish foreign national leaving two black plastic bags near the gas station moments before the deadly blast. The explosion, which rocked central Georgetown and damaged nearby buildings and vehicles, has since been described as a targeted act of terror. This marks the third bombing incident in the capital within six months, following the May 17, 2025 attacks on the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost at Vlissengen Square and a nearby Guyana Power and Light (GPL) substation. The recurrence and proximity of these events raise troubling questions about Guyana’s internal security preparedness and border management.
WIN believes these attacks cannot be viewed in isolation. Reports of individuals entering Guyana under the guise of migration, some allegedly linked to foreign military or intelligence services must be taken seriously. “These attacks are interconnected and important, especially given the multiple warnings that some individuals crossing our borders, with open access to every sector of our society, might be members of the Venezuelan army or intelligence services, and not all have good intentions. This administration has allowed the influx of tens of thousands of Venezuelans into our country,” WIN said. “Our national security was compromised the moment party politics took precedence among those who were more interested in winning an election than ensuring the security of our country and its people, ignoring the necessary checks that should be put in place when another country is trying to take control of three-quarters of its territory. Given the current geopolitical dynamics, Guyana must remain on full alert for any potential negative repercussions or retaliatory actions from Venezuela.”
The party urges the implementation of heightened national security and intelligence coordination. Stricter border monitoring and background checks on all non-Guyanese entrants. “A bipartisan national security council to ensure transparency, accountability, and collective defence of the state. This is not a time for blame or division. It is a moment for national resolve and vigilance. Guyana must act swiftly and smartly to safeguard its people, its sovereignty, and its future,” WIN said.
