Kaieteur Sports – The highly anticipated 4th edition of the ExxonMobil/New Era Futsal Championship was officially launched yesterday in the mining town of Linden.

This year’s tournament will kick off with a group stage format, featuring 13 teams divided into four pools. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout rounds, with all matches scheduled to take place at the Retrieve Tarmac.
The participating teams are: Fearless, Silver Bullets, Salah Family, Young Gunners, Hardball Management, Foundation Family, Bombers, YMCA, DC Ballers, YMCA B, Spaniards, HK, and Spaniards B.
Matches will be held on November 7th, 8th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 19th, 21st, 22nd, and 29th.
The championship winner will walk away with $1,500,000 and a trophy, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $750,000, $350,000, and $200,000 respectively, along with trophies.
On the individual side, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will be rewarded with a motorcycle. In addition, a $300,000 academic grant will be presented to a player or fan to support their educational development, each team is required to nominate one candidate for this award.
Every participating team will also receive an appearance fee of $40,000 upon completion of the group stage.
Speaking at the launch, Ryan Hoppie, Community Relations Supervisor at ExxonMobil Guyana, described the event as a form of strategic community investment. He highlighted the tournament’s role in fostering unity, discipline, and healthy lifestyles, while also providing players with an avenue to showcase their talents.
Hoppie further encouraged teams to remain disciplined, emphasizing that the championship serves as a positive social outlet that deters engagement in illicit activities and contributes to regional tourism.

Meanwhile, Wainwright Bethune, President of the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA), commended ExxonMobil for its continued investment in the community. He noted that the company’s sustained partnership with the New Era Ground demonstrates its satisfaction with the quality and developmental impact of the tournament.
Adding a health-focused perspective, Dr. Gregory Harris from the Ministry of Health revealed that the ministry will use the tournament as a platform to promote health and wellness in the region. He urged players to apply the same discipline and teamwork that drive success on the court toward the betterment of their communities, reminding them of their influence as role models for young people.
