Schools benefited yesterday as ExxonMobil’s donated several essentials to the top four participating teams of the 2025 Exxon Mobil U14 Football tournament.
Kaieteur Sports – ExxonMobil has once again demonstrated its commitment to youth development and sports, this time by presenting schools with much-needed supplies to enhance both their academic and athletic programmes.

Exxon’s Community Relation Supervisor, Ryan Hoppie speaking during yesterday’s handing over ceremony.
The top four finishers of the 2025 Petra–ExxonMobil Under-14 Boys and Girls Football Tournament were yesterday presented with a range of valuable items courtesy of Guyana’s energy partner, ExxonMobil.
The presentation ceremony, held at the Ministry of Education Ground, recognized schools for their outstanding performances both on and off the field.
Through its continued partnership with the Petra Organisation, ExxonMobil Guyana provided the winning schools with comprehensive packages that included stationery supplies, televisions, water dispensers, footballs, gear bags, warm-up equipment, backpacks and other amenities designed to support students’ academic and athletic growth.
The handing-over ceremony was led by Mr. Ryan Hoppie, Community Relations Supervisor at ExxonMobil Guyana and Co-Director of the Petra Organisation. He commended the young athletes for their dedication and discipline throughout the tournament.
“ExxonMobil remains committed to supporting youth development through sports and education,” Hoppie said. “This initiative not only encourages healthy competition but also nurtures teamwork, resilience, and academic balance among our young people.”
The top four finishers in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions were recognized for their exemplary performances. The tournament, which featured 52 teams—32 boys’ and 20 girls’—saw Chase’s Academic Foundation crowned as the Boys’ champions, while Bartica Secondary denied Chase’s Academic a double title by claiming victory in the Girls’ division last July.
The participating teams expressed their gratitude for the continued investment by ExxonMobil and the Petra Organisation in grassroots football, which has become a vital platform for nurturing emerging talent across the country.
Petra Co-Director Troy Mendonca reflected on the tournament’s impact: “The journey was a difficult task, but with the support of our sponsors, my team, the media, and the various teachers, we were able to achieve success. This programme is dear to us at the Petra Organisation because it serves as a ‘transition tournament’ for many of our players, several of whom have gone on to represent Guyana at the national level.”
Over the past decade, ExxonMobil has consistently supported youth development and sports within several communities and schools. The company’s aim is to foster a healthy balance between academics and athletics in an ever-evolving world.
Hoppie also noted that this initiative is not only about helping youth develop their passion for the game but also about supporting their academic pursuits.
The Petra Under-14 Tournament continues to stand as one of Guyana’s most looked-forward-to youth football events, promoting both sporting excellence and educational growth through strong corporate and community collaboration.
